San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has assigned goaltender Nolan Schaefer to Worcester, the Sharks top development affiliate in the American Hockey League.
Schaefer posted a 5-1-0 record with the Sharks in 2005-06 with a 1.88 goals against average and a .920 save percentage. He led the Sharks to their first ever shootout victory on October 29, 2005. He posted five consecutive victories to begin his career with the Sharks becoming the first netminder in franchise history to do so.
The 26-year-old finished the 2005-06 season in Cleveland (AHL) with a 12-21-2 record and was recalled to San Jose on Apr. 18 for the playoffs. During the 2004-05 season with Cleveland, Schaefer led the team in appearances (43) and saves, with 1,076.
The six-foot-two, 195-pound native of Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan was selected by San Jose in the fifth round (166th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
