Sharks Announce 2010-11 Regular Season Schedule

by San Jose Sharks Staff / San Jose Sharks
SAN JOSE, Calif. — The National Hockey League today announced the San Jose Sharks complete 2010-11 regular season schedule. The Sharks will open their 20th NHL season in Stockholm, Sweden as part of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere and NHL Face-Off on Oct. 8 against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Ericsson Globe Arena.

The team will play their first home game of the season in San Jose on Saturday, Oct. 16 against the Atlanta Thrashers, which is also the team’s first game after returning from Europe. The 2010-11 Sharks schedule consists of 82 games – 41 home games (40 in San Jose, one in Stockholm) and 41 road contests (one in Stockholm).

The home schedule features 15 weekend contests (all Saturday). The busiest home weeknight is Thursday (nine), followed by Tuesday (eight), Monday (five), Wednesday (three) and Friday (one, in Stockholm).

The Sharks will play Pacific Division rivals (Anaheim, Dallas, Los Angeles and Phoenix) six times each for a total of 24 games (including the final eight games of the regular season), in addition to playing members of the Western Conference’s Northwest Division (Calgary, Colorado, Edmonton, Minnesota and Vancouver) and Central Division (Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Nashville and St. Louis) four times each (40 games).

The remaining 18 games in the 82-game schedule will involve each club playing every opponent in the other conference at least once, home or away, with the three remaining games being devoted to interconference “at large” scheduling. The Sharks “at large” opponents are compromised of Buffalo, New Jersey and Washington.

The Sharks three-way intra-state rivalry continues with the Anaheim Ducks (Oct. 30, Nov. 9 and April 2) and the Los Angeles Kings (Nov. 15, Dec. 27, April 4) each making three visits to San Jose.

The Sharks have a season-long, six-game homestand from March 1 – 12 and their seven-game road trip from Feb. 2 – 15 constitutes their longest stretch of road games for the season.

The 58th annual NHL All-Star Game will be held Jan. 30 in Raleigh, N.C. The All-Star break will be Jan. 29-31. The last Sharks game before the break will take place Jan. 26 at Los Angeles and the regular season will resume Feb. 1 against Phoenix.

Information on Sharks individual game tickets and a complete broadcast schedule will be released at a later date.
