Sharkie Takes Home 'Most Awesome Mascot'

by Staff Writer / San Jose Sharks

LOS ANGELES -- The Mascot of the San Jose Sharks, S.J. Sharkie, claimed the title "Most Awesome Mascot" at the second annual Cartoon Network Hall of Game™ Awards on Saturday, Feb. 18.

Hosted by former NBA Star Shaquille O'Neal, the Hall of Game Awards featured a star-packed event, onstage celebrity surprises, icons from television, film, music and sports, and hilarious hijinks. Hall of Game Awards premieres Monday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. (ET/PT) on Cartoon Network.

Joined by fellow mascots -- and longtime friends -- Jaxson DeVille (Jacksonville Jaguars, NFL), Slider (Cleveland Indians, MLB), and Slamson (Sacramento Kings, NBA), Sharkie was presented with the award by Jennette McCurdy of iCarly fame, then all the mascots joined hip-hop artist Flo Rida on stage for his performance.

"I couldn't have done it without all of you who voted for me," said Sharkie after the event. "To be the first hockey mascot ever nominated, and then to walk away with the 2012 title is a reflection of the work my 24 other mascots and I in the NHL put forth for the best fans in all of sport!"

The Hall of Game Awards included appearances by Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, the First Lady Michelle Obama, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson and NBA stars LeBron James and Dwayne Wade. Los Angeles Galaxy star David Beckham received the annual Icon Award from none other than New Orleans Saints star quarterback Drew Brees and Shaq tried to one-up New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz with his own dance moves.
