Setoguchi And Kaspar Called Up

by San Jose Sharks Staff / San Jose Sharks
The San Jose Sharks placed Rob Davison (finger) and Ryane Clowe (knee) on the injured reserve list Sunday and replaced the two wingers (Davison had played forward instead of defense the past few games) with Devin Setoguchi and Lukas Kaspar.

Both rookies were impressive during the Sharks 2007 training camp, with Kaspar being one of the final cuts and Setoguchi actually making the club by leading the Sharks in goals, only to have an injury postpone his NHL debut.

Setoguchi and Kaspar are both highly regarded first-round prospects with Setoguchi taken eighth overall in 2005 and Kaspar tapped 22nd overall in 2004.

The rookies could get their initial taste of NHL action Monday in a 5:30 p.m. PST nationally televised game on Versus that will also be available on 98.5 KFOX and

At Sunday’s practice, Wilson had Setoguchi playing alongside Patrick Rissmiller and Torrey Mitchell, with Kaspar manning a left wing spot beside Patrick Marleau and Steve Bernier. Other lines included Milan Michalek, Joe Thornton and Jeremy Roenick along with Marcel Goc, Joe Pavelski and Jonathan Cheechoo.

Setoguchi will wear the number 16 that he chose when he made the roster while Kaspar is currently using the number 43 that he had in training camp.

Setoguchi and Kaspar had helped propel the Worcester Sharks to a strong 4-1-1 start in the American Hockey League before the weekend call-up.
