On Jan. 6-7, the Sharks Alumni Association and Logitech Ice at San Jose held the 2nd Annual San Jose Sharks Alumni Cup Hockey Tournament – Police vs. Fire.
The tournament featured Police and Fire hockey teams from throughout the Bay Area competing in a round-robin tournament at Logitech Ice on Jan. 6 and at HP Pavilion before the Sharks game against Los Angeles on Jan. 7.
This year, the San Jose Police Department team – featuring Sharks alum Darren Turcotte -- won the prestigious “Cow Cup” by defeating the NorCal Predators (Sacramento Fire Department) in the championship game, 2-1.
Seven law enforcement/fire department agencies participated in the tournament and drafted one Sharks alum to play on their team. The agencies included the San Jose Police (Turcotte), San Jose Police “Brit Bobbies” (Jamie Baker), South Bay Fire (Dave Maley), NorCal (Novato Fire) Firebirds (Drew Remenda), NorCal (Sacramento Fire) Predators (Neil Wilkinson), NorCal (North Bay Police) Blue Meanies (Gaetan Duchesne) and Contra Costa Fire (Tom Pederson).
In addition to the tournament, the event also included a fundraising reception and raffle held at the new Stanley’s Sports Bar at Logitech Ice on Jan. 6. Raffle items included signed game-used sticks, Zamboni rides, a Stick Kid Night and a Sharks Locker Room visit package.
The evening was hosted by Sharks Television Analyst and former Assistant Coach Remenda. In addition, former Sharks players and current Assistant Coaches Tim Hunter and Rob Zettler paid visits along with Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson.
Team fees and donations for this fundraising tournament benefited local police and fire department charities. More than $10,000 was raised from this tournament.
Congratulations to all of the participants and those who helped raise money for our charities!
