SAN JOSE, California - The San Jose Sharks announced today that goaltender Antti Niemi has been selected as the Brocade "Sharks Player of the Month" for the months of January and February 2013.
Thru March 4, Niemi is 3rd in the NHL in goals-against average (1.83), 4th in save percentage (.934), and T-6th in wins (9). He has given up two or less goals in 12 of his 17 games this season.
Established in the 1996-97 season, the Brocade "Sharks Player of the Month" program honors the Sharks player(s) who have contributed most to the team's success each month. Brocade will donate $2,500 on behalf of the player(s) to The Sharks Foundation. In addition, one player will be selected as the Brocade "Sharks Player of the Year" at the conclusion of the season and Brocade will donate $5,000 on his behalf to The Sharks Foundation. The Sharks Player of the Month and Year award program has donated more than $300,000 to The Sharks Foundation since the program's inception.
