Newly Renovated Sharks Store Appeals To All Fans

by Staff Writer / San Jose Sharks
Bay Area sports fans have a newly-renovated place to get their favorite team’s apparel. From the SaberCats and the Stealth to the San Jose Grand Prix and the Sharks, the expanded Sharks Store on the main level of HP Pavilion at San Jose has lots more to offer.

“We needed to expand because we now sell merchandise for so many more sports properties than just the Sharks,” SVS&E Merchandise General Manager Mary Keen said.

After months of renovation, the store is now roughly 35 percent bigger, though Keen admitted it looks at least twice its previous size.

The larger size offers more wall space, which opens up the store and allows for easier shopping, as well as different sections to better-organize each different property.

“The larger store really limits the congestion on game nights,” Keen said. “The number of fans coming through the store on any given night can range from 1,500 to 3,500,” she said, “so more space means more room to shop.”

On Feb. 27, San Jose Chamber of Commerce President Pat Dando cut the ribbon to open the newly-remodeled Sharks Store. Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment President and CEO Greg Jamison and Executive Vice President of Business Operations Malcolm Bordelon were also present to assist with the ceremony.

The fan response has been excellent. Many fans have noticed the size difference, while others have enthusiastically commented on the new arrangement of merchandise. Fans are also appreciative of the separate sections for ladies and kids.

Even with the new feel of the store, the previously best selling items are still flying off shelves. “Sharks T-shirts and caps are always best sellers, along with the collared shirts and jackets,” Keen said.

“We have a hard time keeping player jerseys on the shelves,” Keen noted, but admitted there are always plenty for fans to choose from. “There are requests for jerseys of every player, not just one or two.”

Fans can also order personalized jerseys with their name and favorite number. There’s also a special section in the store which sells signed, game-used merchandise, such as skates, jerseys, helmets, gloves and sticks for the Sharks and plans are to add Stealth and SaberCats game-used merchandise as well. These are popular items with fans of all ages.

Although the grand re-opening is behind them, the staff of the Sharks Store is looking forward to another change in the future. Fans will soon get the opportunity to take part in a contest to name the store, which now deals in more than just Sharks merchandise.

For now, everyone just gets to enjoy the merchandise and extra space, something Keen said allows fans to “get in, get what they want and get back to the game.”
