Mobile Shark Tank Makes First Appearance of 2007

by Staff Writer / San Jose Sharks
What could be better on a hot springtime day than hockey and some ice cream?  Well, the San Jose Sharks brought both to one lucky elementary school. On Apr. 27, the Mobile Shark Tank (MST) and the Sharks Ice Cream Truck visited Willow Glen Elementary in San Jose, facilitating fun, yet competitive intra-class scrimmages.
Mobile Shark TankArranged by a parent volunteer, the MST—making its first appearance of the season—allowed students the opportunity to play street hockey while working together as a team. The students played hockey with Sharks staff in the 87-degree weather for over an hour!
“I had a lot of fun today,” said one student. “I played a sport that I know and got to be outside with my friends.”
Although being outside and away from their studies was a treat in and of itself for these 30 students, there was another treat waiting for them at the conclusion of the scrimmages.
“I was really excited that the Sharks were coming to our school today,” said another student. “But I can’t believe we got ice cream too!”
Just as the MST wrapped up another successful visit to one class at Willow Glen Elementary, all students were dismissed from school and scurried over to the Sharks Ice Cream Truck to cool down and celebrate the end of a hard week with a refreshing ice cream. In addition to free ice cream, Sharks staff passed out stickers to over 200 students waiting for their rides at the conclusion of another long school day.
“It’s really great that you guys are doing this,” said one parent as her child waited eagerly in line for an ice cream sandwich.
This is the first stop on another booming season for the Mobile Shark Tank and the Sharks Ice Cream Truck!  Stay tuned for more entertaining stories…
The Mobile Shark Tank, consisting of one-foot high light foam boards, is a portable and interactive mobile street hockey experience geared towards elementary school-aged children. A safe, non-competitive experience, this hockey rink allows children to play street hockey in a designated area like a parking lot, blacktop or gymnasium floor FREE of charge. All participants need is just tennis shoes. The Sharks will provide sticks, balls and necessary equipment for goalies.
