Antti Niemi has to make a big save late to prevent a Phoenix tally, but the game is over and the Sharks win 4-1.  San Jose rides into the Christmas break with a season long four game winning streak.

Patrick Marleau almost got the hat trick, but his shot went just high on a great pass from Joe Thornton.

Lee Stempniak gets called for inteferring with Antti Niemi and the Sharks just hit the post on a shot.

Scary moment as Devin Setoguchi went awkwardly into the boards.  He was down as play went the other way, but was able to leave the ice under his own power.

Patrick Marleau's wicked wrister puts the Sharks up 4-1 as he finds the top corner near side.  Joe Thornton set him up with plenty of space to work with.

Logan Couture forces Derek Morris to hold him up and San Jose will get a chance to provide Round Table Pizza to fans in attendance.

An effort by Jamal Mayers hits both posts, but comes out the other side without crossing the line.

Patrick Marleau ends a 10 game goalless streak by swooping in on a loose puck and lifting it upstairs.  Douglas Murray picks up an assist in his return and the lead is 3-1.

San Jose begins the third look to head home happy for the holidays.

San Jose is up 2-1 after 40 minutes and is outshooting their guests 29-15.

The Sharks seem to be looking for more instead of sitting on the lead.

Stellar save by Antti Niemi on Scottie Upshall as the Coyotes were looking for a quick response.

San Jose has their first lead of the game.  Joe Thornton takes a pass on the far side from Dany Heatley and pops the water bottle.  San Jose's up 2-1.

Dan Boyle's hard skating drew a PHX penalty and San Jose goes on their sixth power play.

Just over a minute later the Sharks respond.  On their own power play Dan Boyle wrists one that clings of the inside of the post to tie things at one.

On their 10th shot of the game, Phoenix takes the lead.  On the power play, former Shark Ray Whitney strikes for the 1-0 lead.

San Jose is outshooting Phoenix 22-6 at the moment, but still 0-0 in goals.

After an Antti Niemi save, Niclas Wallin clears a puck that could have been a goal.

Patrick Marleau took a feed all alone in the slot, but Jason LaBarbera found jsut enough of it.  Now PHX takes another delay of game penalty, their third of the night and San Jose has 18 seconds of 5v3 time. 

Devin Setoguchi almost redirected the puck home with less than a second remaining, but 1:06 of power play time will carry into the second period. 

San Jose outshot Phoenix 13-5 during the first stanza.

San Jose gets a second PP due to a PHX delay of game penalty.

Tough break for the Sharks as they could not find the tally up two men for so long.  Then Benn Ferriero goes to the box as the Sharks PK units come back out.

Paul Bissonnette clears the puck over the glass and the Sharks get a power play.  Then 12 seconds later Ed Jovanovski is called for interference and there is 1:48 of 5v3 time for the Sharks.

San Jose just killed off the Coyotes first power play of the game.

Sitting at a TV timeout and the Sharks have the better scoring chances in the early going.

A Sharks giveaway in the D zone puts the puck right on the stick of Martin Hanzal, but Antti Niemi flashes the glove, thrilling the crowd.

Logan Couture forces a Phoenix turnover that eventually results in a scoring chance for the rookie.  His shot went a bit high and the game remains scoreless.

Douglas Murray and Dan Boyle start on the blueline and Dany Heatley, Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau are up front.

The big news in warmups is Douglas Murray is officially back in the lineup.  His return means that Justin Braun will be out for the night.

Antti Niemi is starting opposit Jason LaBarbera.
