SAN JOSE - The San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) announced today that goaltender Martin Jones has been selected as the Sharks Foundation (@SharksCare) "Sharks Player of the Month" for February.
Jones posted an 8-4-1 record in the month of February and finished T-2nd in the league in wins (8), 7th in goals-against average (2.14) and T-13th in save percentage (.922). He currently ranks T-3rd among all NHL goaltenders in wins (32) and 2nd in the league with five shutouts.
Since the start of 2016, Jones has posted the second best record in the league at 16-6-2. He leads the NHL with 21 road wins, six of those coming in February. The North Vancouver, British Columbia native has given up three goals or less in nine of his last 10 starts heading into Saturday's contest against the Vancouver Canucks.
Established in the 1996-97 season, the Sharks Foundation "Sharks Player of the Month" program honors the Sharks player(s) who have contributed most to the team's success each month. The Sharks Player of the Month and Year award program has donated more than $300,000 to the Sharks Foundation since the program's inception.
This is the 1st player of the month recognition for Jones.
