The San Jose Sharks FinAtical Kids Club gave their members a chance to beat the heat on Jun. 25, as they hosted their second Kids Club Skate of the year at Logitech Ice at San Jose.
With temperatures outside hovering in the 90’s, FinAtical Kids Club members and their guests found relief inside the chilled confines of Logitech Ice’s center rink. The FinAtical Kids Club offered ice time and skate rentals to all of its members for only $5-half off the normal price. Over 100 attendees took advantage of this special offer and traded in their sun block and sandals for a pair of skates.
No FinAtical Kids Club skate session would be complete without everyone’s favorite mascot, S.J. Sharkie. The Sharks FinAtical fish helped struggling skaters on the ice, posed for dozens of pictures and even attempted to bite a head or two (in a friendly way, of course). For most of the kids out there, skating with S.J. Sharkie was the highlight of the event.
In addition to the discounted skating, a raffle was held exclusively for Kids Club members. Among the items raffled were signed pucks, signed player cards, S.J. Sharkie limited edition memorabilia and the grand prize, a Sharks mini-stick signed by members of the 2005-06 team.
Kyle from San Jose was one lucky member who benefited from the raffle.
“I won a Nils Ekman autographed picture,“ said the 7-year-old. “I love the Kids Club because I get to go to fun events like this!”
Even those that didn’t win walked away with a 2005-06 team photo and photo cards of their favorite players.
“It has been a really great inaugural year,” said Ann Zis, whose son is a member of the FinAtical Kids Club. “All of the opportunities and activities that they provide for kids is a wonderful way to get out into the community and promote the Sharks. This event is a great way for these young fans to show their spirit and have fun with other kids and their families.”
In its first year, the FinAtical Kids Club has sold out of all of its memberships. For only $14.95, members received a puck signed by S.J. Sharkie, an Official 2005-06 Team Yearbook, a sling bag, stickers, a pencil, a temporary tattoo, a membership card, a membership certificate and a birthday card. Throughout the year, members also received newsletters, were entered into raffles to win autographed Sharks items and were given the opportunity to skate with S.J. Sharkie at Logitech Ice.
The Sharks FinAtical Kids Club boasts members in 12 different states (California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Washington) and two different countries (Canada and the United States).
