Burns Wins 'Sharks Fan Favorite Award' Presented by Enterprise Exotic Car Collection

SAN JOSE - The San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) announced today that defenseman Brent Burns has been voted as the winner of the "Sharks Fan Favorite Award" presented by Enterprise Exotic Car Collection for the 2015-16 season. The "Sharks Fan Favorite Award" is determined by fan voting on social media and at sjsharks.com.

For the 2015-16 campaign, Burns has posted 74 points (27 goals, 47 assists) and 350 shots on goal in 81 games played. He is currently ranked 1st on the Sharks in goals, assists, points, power-play goals, power-play points, shots, and game-winning goals amongst defensemen. Amongst all San Jose skaters, he ranks 2nd in goals and assists, and 3rd in points. Moreover, Burns ranks T-11th in the NHL in assists and points, and 2nd in shots on goal amongst all skaters. He ranks 1st in goals and shots on goal, T-3rd in assists and 2nd in points amongst NHL defensemen.

In addition, Burns set a couple of San Jose franchise milestones this season. He surpassed Sandis Ozolinsh for most goals by a Sharks defenseman with 27 on March 28 vs Los Angeles, has set a record for most assists by a Sharks blueliner and for most points by a Sharks defenseman with 65 on March 20 vs Arizona.

Burns was named the Sharks Foundation "Sharks Player of the Month" during the month of November and March. During the month of November, "Burnzie" posted the most goals of any NHL defensemen (eight) and was T-3rd in points (14). More so, he led all San Jose scorers in goals and points. In March, Burns led all NHL defensemen in goals (six), points (17) and shots (68). Additionally, he led the Sharks in points, was 2nd in assists (11) and registered a point in 12 of the 16 contests the Sharks played in March.

More so, the NHL recognized Burns for his outstanding play by awarding him the "third star" for the month of March. He registered 19 points (6 goals, 13 assists) over the course of the month, set career highs and single season franchise records in goals (27), assists (46) and points (73). Burns was also named third and second star for the weeks ending on March 6 and April 3, respectively.

The six-foot-five, 230-pound native of Barrie, Ontario was originally selected by the Minnesota Wild in the first round (20th overall) of the 2003 NHL Draft. He was acquired by San Jose from Minnesota on June 24, 2011.

Everyone who submitted a vote for the "Sharks Fan Favorite Award" was automatically entered into a random drawing which one (1) Grand Prize winner was randomly selected from among all eligible entries during the voting period.

The Grand Prize winner received two tickets to Sharks "Fan Appreciation Night," presented by Enterprise Exotic Car Collection, a chance to meet their favorite player on the ice after the game and get the player's jersey off their back, a Zamboni ride, and a behind-the-scenes tour of SAP Center.
