2016 Sampling with the Sharks Presented by Citrix Raises $202,200 for the Sharks Foundation

by Staff Writer / San Jose Sharks

On Sunday, March 13 the San Jose Sharks roster, coaches, broadcasters, alumni and more than 300 guests helped the Sharks Foundation raise $202,200 at Sampling with the Sharks presented by Citrix.

Funds generated from this year’s event are the most raised by the Sharks Foundation at any single fundraiser and will help improve the lives of underserved youth and families in the Bay Area, with partial proceeds benefitting San Jose Rotary Club’s philanthropic project, Rotaplast International.

The annual wine tasting fundraiser included two hours of wine tasting, light bites provided by Hult’s restaurant, as well as unique live, premier and silent auctions featuring one-of-a-kind experiences and autographed memorabilia.

New to the event, and in the spirit of the Sharks 25th Anniversary, was the 125 for $125 Ceci Wong’s Mystery Box Raffle. One hundred and twenty five “mystery boxes” were sold for $125 each and all contained prizes, including Ceci Wong pearl earrings, Heritage jerseys featuring Sharks players or prospects, a 3L bottle of 2010 Duckhorn Merlot signed by members of the team and much more. The grand prize was a custom versatile Ceci Wong jewelry pendant, featuring the new Sharks swimming shark design in 18 karat white gold, with over 1 carat of black diamonds and the iconic breaking hockey stick in 18 karat yellow and white gold. The first-ever mystery box raffle was a popular addition, raising more than $15,000 for the Sharks Foundation.

The evening’s live auction, which featured five unique experiences all involving current Sharks players, raised nearly $80,000 alone. One package, Burnzie’s Zoo Crew, offering a behind-the-scenes experience at the San Francisco Zoo with Sharks blueliner #88 Brent Burns and #12 Patrick Marleau and their families raised $25,000, and was doubled for a total of $50,000. Other packages included a golf foursome at CordeValle Golf Resort in San Martin with Sharks starting goaltender #31 Martin Jones, as well as private dinners with #4 Brenden Dillon, #7 Paul Martin, or #42 Joel Ward.

The Sharks Foundation would like to thank Citrix who has supported the Foundation as a presenting sponsor of this event for the fourth consecutive year, as well as our Sip Sponsors: Ceci Wong, S&M Moving Systems, Ticket Galaxy and Hult’s.

Thank you to the Photo Booth Sponsor: Club Auto Sport; Event Partners: Joseph George Wines, HomeTeam Sports Photography, TapSnap 1050, Allegra Entertainment and Events, and Signs Now; Beverage Partners: Aquafina, Pepsi, MillerCoors and Lagunitas Brewing Company, all the participating wineries who came and poured their finest wines, and to all the guests who attended and made this year’s fundraiser the most successful one Sharks Foundation fundraiser to date.
