After last night's now iconic "I got this!" picture went viral, we take a look back at our most popular Instagram photos from this season. Where does it stack up against this season's best?
EVERYBODY was waiting for Curtis Lazar to bury his first career NHL goal so when he finally scored against the Buffalo Sabres on Dec 15th, 2014, the internet was happy for him. These types of photos aren't super uncommon and in fact we've done at least 2 others this season with Hammond and most recently Puempel. Young player holds up puck, smiles and we're done.
People like really Lazar though. They like his smile. They like his positive attitude. They like they way he conducts himself in interviews. So when he jammed a loose puck past Jhonas Enroth on a Monday night in Buffalo, they liked his picture.
You can relive Lazar's first NHL goal right here.
2. The burger stayed together
So this just happened and it exploded. Our dedicated content people are always on hand to snap those exclusive "after the win" pics that people love so much. Sometimes it's the guys celebrating together, sometimes it's the 3 stars and sometimes it's a goalie in the midst of a historical run to start his NHL career raising a hamburger towards the heavens.
There has been no shortage of Hamburglar related content on social media recently, both by us and our incredibly talented fans, but it's almost entirely photoshopped. This is a moment that actually happened in real life and it was amazing.
It will probably overtake Lazar for the #1 spot since it's still picking likes as well.
UPDATE: As predicted, Hammond's victory burger surpassed Lazar's beaming smile.
3. Alfie warms up
And we've come to our first of many Alfie pics on this list. When the news broke that former Sens captain Daniel Alfredsson would be returning to Ottawa AND suiting up one last time for the team's pre-game warm-up on December 4th, 2014 against the New York Islanders, the internet went into a bit of a tizzy (and rightfully so).
"Thanks for everything" might be the biggest understatement of all-time.
4. Alfie warms up (again)
Another pic from the December 4th, 2014 warm-up. A nice, close, intimate shot of Alfredsson enjoying his victory lap in Ottawa. He was smiling for the entire 18+ minutes he was out on the ice and that's something we really wanted to share. Given it's spot on this list our fans seemed to agree.
5. An important moment
Sometimes, it's not always about capturing the fun and happy moments. On October 22nd, 2014 a series of shootings occurred in and around the Parliament Building. The Sens scheduled game against the the Toronto Maple Leafs that night was postponed as a result. At the team's next home game on October 25th, both the Sens and New Jersey Devils along with a number of first responders and Canadian Forces personnel took part in an emotional ceremony at centre ice.
You can watch this tribute in it's entirety here.
6. Captain Karl
Just prior to puck drop for every game, we push out a few choice photos from the pre-game warm-up (see all the Alfie pics on this list). What makes this Instagram post so special (and well liked) is that it was the first pic we snapped of Erik Karlsson with the "C" on his jersey.
Plus it didn't hurt that his flow was out in full force either.
7. A double dose of goods news
Typically we "break" Sens news on Twitter and ottawasenators.com but with the double announcement that both Bobby Ryan had signed a 7-year contract extension AND EK65 was set to be the team's next captain we wanted to put this everywhere. Instagram agreed with us.
8. Best buds
If you follow the team on Instagram (or Twitter and Facebook for that matter), you've probably seen Harv before. We've been chronicling his antics all season in the form of gameday photos like this and this. Well, it turns out that there was a mutual admiration between Harv and Daniel Alfredsson and once introduced they hit it off right away.
9. Alfie takes to the ice one last time...
To no one's surprise, all 3 of our "Daniel Alfredsson warm-up pics" made it into the top 10. That was a huge night and whether you were in the building or not, it was something that people just couldn't get enough of (and probably didn't want it to end).
10. The captain gets it done in MTL
The final photo on this list isn't even a week old. From last Thursday March 12th, 2015, we caught the captain coming off the ice in Montreal after his 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) help rally the Sens to a 5-2 win over the division leading Canadiens. Karlsson has been particularly dominant recently so when he helps will the Sens to 5 unanswered goals against one of their biggest rivals...people are going to like it...and they did.
