Sens edged by Sabres in Kraft Hockeyville game

by Staff Writer / Ottawa Senators
DUNDAS, Ont. — Jason Pominville's goal with 8:46 remaining lifted the Buffalo Sabres past the Ottawa Senators 2-1 on Tuesday night in the annual Kraft Hockeyville game.

Pominville's low wrist shot eluded Senators goaltender Robin Lehner to break a 1-1 deadlock before a capacity crowd of about 1,000 at the J.L. Grightmire Arena in Dundas, Ont., the town which won the annual CBC competition earlier this year.

Patrick Wiercioch had the lone goal for the Senators, his first in an Ottawa uniform. The rookie blueliner's screened, high wrist shot beat Sabres goalie Ryan Miller for a power-play goal with 12 seconds left in the second period.

Buffalo also got a shorthanded goal from Rob Niedermayer in the first period.

The Senators return home to face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night (7:30 p.m., Sportsnet Sens, Team 1200). They current own a 2-3-0 record in the pre-season.
