We caught up with Sens winger Tom Pyatt on the morning of his 30th birthday to talk getting older, facing the Sabres tonight and more...
On what they need to do differently against the Sabres tonight:
Definitely limit our turnovers, that's something we've talked about. The last few times we've played them, for some reason we try to make plays in the middle of the ice and they always have 5 guys back in that area so we give the puck up and they generate offence off of that. Tonight we just want to go wide on them, play deep and limit those turnovers around the blueline.
On developing chemistry with Jean-Gabriel Pageau:
It clicked pretty early on I thought. Right at the beginning of the season you could tell we play in a similar way and do similar things out there. We like to play a simple game and play down low around the net area. Playing with a guy like him I know where he's going to be and what to expect from him so it's kind of nice.
On taking advantage of their games at hand:
It's huge obviously. We can catch Montreal who has kind of slowed down a little bit so if we can get some points here and get closer to them then that'd be nice to catch them or pass them which would be huge for us. Obviously, we want to focus one game at a time and we want this one tonight.
On being in the mix for the Atlantic Division title:
We're not trying to think too far ahead. Obviously, we're in a good spot right now but we're a team that just focuses on each day and each game. We're just trying to get to another level as the season goes on and gets closer to the playoffs.
On turning 30 today:
I don't feel any different but it's just kind of a tough number, you know? Your 20's are good and then now I'm in my 30's. I definitely don't feel any different but I'm not too sure about the number yet (laughs).
