Pyatt: "I'm ready for the opportunity."

by Craig Medaglia @craigmedaglia / Ottawa Senators

After spending two seasons with Geneve-Servette Hockey Club in Switzerland, Tom Pyatt finds himself back at an NHL training camp fighting for a roster spot in Ottawa.

On being able to develop the offensive side of his game in Switzerland the past two seasons:

It was a great experience for me to go over there. Just being able to play the puck a bit more, play a more offensive role, to get some power play time and just acquire some new skills. I think I'm bringing back a better offensive game. I'm happy I went over there and I'm bringing back some new tools. I'm happy with where my game is at now.

On some of the injuries at wing providing an opportunity at training camp:

You never want to see injuries at all but it's part of the game and it happens. Sometimes it opens up more opportunities and I'm ready for the opportunity. I like how my game is going now and I'm obviously trying to make the team so it's a big opportunity for me when more spots are open.

On being accustomed to Guy Boucher's style of coaching and practices:

Sometimes it's nice to be more familiar with things. I think for a lot of the guys they didn't know what to expect. I kind of knew what to expect a little bit. I've had many practices with him before so I know when you get out there he wants it to be done right away and intense so I guess I knew what to expect a little bit and that makes it easier to transition back over.

On Boucher adding some familiar faces to the team and his coaching staff:

Our coaches want to trust people too, right? So coming here I didn't know any of the players really but I know a lot of the coaching staff from the past. I think when you go to a new place or a new city it's always nice to be familiar with something. Obviously he likes to be familiar with his staff and maybe certain players too.

Looking back on his time with the Montreal Canadiens (tonight's pre-season opponent):

It was a great experience. I really enjoyed playing and living in Montreal. It's a great city and they have great support there too. I had so much fun playing there. I was there for about a year and a half and those are times I'll never forget. It was a good experience.
