Here's what Paul MacLean had to say after the Senators dropped the first leg of their doubleheader by a 3-2 score to the New York Islanders in St. John's...
On the performance:
I thought that our competition level for the total 60 minutes was very good. I thought things that we've been working on I saw in our game and we need to continue to work on them, but I thought it was a hard-working effort by the group. We have a chance to win it in the third, they have a chance and they end up winning it.
On the line chemistry:
I thought Mika's line was good, all the line combinations were effective and did good things for us and the D-pairings. We could have executed a little cleaner in our zone and it would have helped us a little bit but the competition level we had in our game and the structure we had in our game was good.
We want to see him be consistent and I thought tonight Jean-Gabriel was an important player for us. He was good on the penalty kill, he was good on the play they scored the goal. I thought his line was effective all night long. We just need him to consistently do those things and do it at an NHL level night after night.
