OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenceman Fredrik Claesson on a one-year, two-way contract extension. The contract will carry an annual value of $600,000 in the National Hockey League and of $85,000 in the American Hockey League.
Claesson, 23, completed his third full season of professional hockey with the Senators’ AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, last season. He also established new professional career highs in goals (four) and games (76) in 2014-15 while being the only B-Sens’ player to appear in each of the team’s regular season contests. In three seasons with Binghamton, he has missed only seven of the club’s 228 games.
A Stockholm native, Claesson was presented with Binghamton’s “Top Defenseman” award following the 2013-14 season after establishing his current professional career high of 29 points and ranking second among all AHL players with a plus/minus rating of +37. In 221 professional games (all of which have occurred with the B-Sens) Claesson has recorded 59 points (10 goals, 49 assists), 132 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of +35.
