OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today their Minor Hockey Week tribute to players, coaches, officials and volunteers, which runs from Nov. 1 to 8.
Created in partnership with Scotiabank and the two minor hockey governing bodies in the National Capital Region — the Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association (ODMHA) and Hockey Outaouais — Minor Hockey Week will feature programs and initiatives that highlight teams, associations, coaches, players and volunteers in a salute to the region’s minor hockey communities.
Senators Alumni Clinics featuring Todd White
Sunday, Nov. 2, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Robert Guertin Centre
The Senators will host the first minor hockey clinic at Robert Guertin Centre in Gatineau on Sunday afternoon. These bilingual clinics will feature former Senators forward Todd White and provides local minor hockey players with a unique opportunity to improve their skill set while featuring instruction in both English and French.
Senators Alumni Forwards Clinic featuring Shean Donovan
Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. for forwards at Canadian Tire Centre
The Senators will host the first of two position-specific clinics at Canadian Tire Centre on Wednesday evening. This clinic will feature former Senators forward Shean Donovan, who will share insight on offensive strategy and lead forward-related drills to provide local minor hockey players with instruction on how to improve their positional play.
Senators Alumni Defencemen Clinic featuring Jason York
Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. for defencemen at Canadian Tire Centre
The second position-specific bilingual clinic at Canadian Tire Centre on Wednesday evening will feature former Senators defenceman Jason York, who will share insight on defensive strategy and lead defence-related drills to provide local minor hockey players with instruction on how to improve their positional play.
12th Annual Tim Hortons Coaches Clinic
Saturday, Nov. 8, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Senators conclude Minor Hockey Week presented by Scotiabank with the 12th annual Tim Hortons Coaches Clinic on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Canadian Tire Centre. Held free of charge for all classifications of coaches, the clinic will feature an introductory welcome by Senators head coach Paul MacLean (at 7:45 a.m.), followed by individual demonstration sessions related to skating techniques, goaltending, defensive play and checking by prominent hockey instructors from the community, including the Ottawa Senators coaching staff. Participants will receive a Tim Hortons Coaches Clinic handbook containing tips regarding on-ice drills and will be able to watch the Senators game day morning skate following the instructional sessions. Two segments led by Hockey Ouatouais will be presented in French following the Senators and Jets morning skates for the first time. Also new this year, Hockey Canada will award three points towards its Maintenance of Coaching Certification program to each coach who registers and attends this free clinic.
10th Annual Capital Fall Classic
The Bell Sensplex will serve as the primary host for the 10th annual Capital Fall Classic Tournament, presented by the Ottawa Valley Silver Seven and the Nepean Raiders, from Friday, Nov. 7, to Sunday, Nov. 9, featuring 54 tier II hockey teams from around Ontario and upstate New York.
Cumberland Dukes House League Showdown
The Richcraft Sensplex will serve as the primary host for the inaugural Cumberland Dukes House League Showdown Tournament, presented by the Cumberland Minor Hockey Association, from Friday, Nov. 7, to Sunday, Nov. 9, while featuring 36 novice hockey teams from across Ottawa.
Both tournaments are sanctioned by the Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association (ODHMA). The championship games will take place at each Sensplex facility on Sunday. For additional information, please visit www.sensplex.ca.
Special night home games and Minor Hockey Players
Each Senators home game during Minor Hockey Week (Nov. 4 vs. Detroit, Nov. 6 vs. Minnesota and Nov. 8 vs. Winnipeg), will feature local minor hockey players taking part in a Tim Hortons’ sponsored initiative on the ice during the first intermission of each of the three games, while minor hockey players and officials will join Senators players and the respective night’s NHL officials for the national anthems.
