Curtis Lazar spoke on getting back into game action after Saturday's 4-3 loss in the opening game of the 2014 Rookie Tournament. Here's what he had to say...
On getting into a game:
It felt good, obviously there was a bit of nerves and a bit of excitement out there and the play was a little sloppy, but just to get back into game shape, we battled hard. Things just didn't go our way. We've got to hit the reset button and get ready for the Leafs.
On his game:
I felt pretty good, there were some plays where I wish I could have done things differently but Pumps (Matt Puempel) made a good play for me and I was able to put one in. It's a start and I'm looking forward to getting better tomorrow.
On the goal:
It was a footrace and Pumps got on his horse, he got the D-men going with a little chip and I was in all alone. I pressed the panic button and got the goalie to open up a little bit and found a way to put it in.
On how he feels vs. last year:
I feel great, I'm a lot more relaxed, I feel bigger, I feel stronger, I feel like I belong. It's a stepping stone, I want to try and prove myself each and every day. Playing with guys like Pumps and Robinson out there, they're making my job quite easy. Tomorrow's a new day and it's just getting ready and building off today.
On chemistry with Puempel:
Look at his goal out there, that's an NHL calibre shot from a pretty good player. I can keep on playing with him and build some chemistry and it's going to be beneficial for our team.
