Bulletin: Senators acquire Martin Lapointe from Chicago

OTTAWA – Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today that the club has acquired right-wing Martin Lapointe from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Ottawa’s sixth-round pick in the 2008 NHL entry draft. Lapointe is expected to join the Senators in Philadelphia tomorrow in advance of their game against the Flyers on Thursday, Feb. 28.

Lapointe, 34, had three goals, four assists and 47 penalty minutes in 52 games with the Blackhawks this season. A native of Ville Ste-Pierre, Que., Lapointe has played 973 career NHL games over parts of 16 seasons with Detroit, Boston and Chicago. The two-time Stanley Cup winner has recorded 178 career goals, 197 assists, 375 points and 1,394 penalty minutes.

Lapointe was Detroit’s first-round pick, 10th overall in the 1991 NHL entry draft.
