OTTAWA - The Atlanta Thrashers claimed today Ottawa Senators left-winger Denis Hamel on waivers. The Senators had placed Hamel on waivers at noon on Friday.
In 43 games this season with Ottawa, Hamel had four goals and three assists; a +4 plus-minus rating and 10 penalty minutes.
The 29-year-old native of Lachute, Que., has been in the Senators organization since the 2003-04 season, having spent most of his first three years with the AHL's Binghamton team. In seven NHL seasons with the Buffalo Sabres and Ottawa, he has 18 goals, 12 assists and 77 penalty minutes in 182 NHL games.
Since his first AHL season in 1997-98 with the Rochester Americans, Hamel had his most successful campaign last year with Binghamton when he recorded 56 goals and 35 assists for 91 points in 77 games.
