Event registration is open and a new website has been launched for the sixth annual event, which can be accessed by visiting the Sens Foundation website at www.sensfoundation.com .
Roger's House is the charity of choice of the Sens Foundation. Located on the grounds of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Roger's House provides a comprehensive pediatric respite and palliative care program with elements of outreach, residential hospice, pain and symptom management; grief and bereavement counseling, and research.
Since opening its doors in May 2006, Roger's House has had close to 700 admissions from all over Ontario. The welcoming home-away-from-home atmosphere comforts children and families that are admitted to the state-of-the-art, eight-bedroom facility, where dedicated professionals and volunteers provide the best in compassionate care and support.
The Sens Foundation has made a long-term commitment to cover a portion of the annual operating costs for Roger’s House. The Direct Energy Walk, Roll & Run for Roger's House, with its 2km Spartacat and 5km Mattamy Homes event routes, is a terrific way to get involved and support the Sens Foundation, while making an important and lasting contribution to countless children and their family members in a time of need.
This year’s event is being supported by the CFB Petawawa Defence Team, who has launched its own fundraising campaign. Captain Shawn Neville and wife Georgina’s nine-year-old son Christopher suffers from a severe and rare seizure disorder that began when he was three weeks old. Doctors felt his case was an anomaly and encouraged Georgina and Shawn to have more children. Two years later Christopher’s sister, Gillian, was born. She was a happy healthy baby until the age of six weeks, when she started exhibiting the same symptoms.

“The Sens Foundation is truly overwhelmed with the support of the CFB Petawawa Defence Team,” said Sens Foundation president Danielle Robinson. “Their contributions will help provide funding for programs at Roger’s House, servicing many families like the Nevilles in our communities. We are also very excited to see so many past sponsors and participants come together once again to join us for a fun-filled day of celebration.”
The fifth annual Direct Energy Walk, Roll & Run for Roger’s House raised $248,000 and boasted more than 1,000 participants. Ottawa Senators player Mike Fisher and others took part in the ceremonies and signed autographs for the participants. In five years, the Direct Energy Walk, Roll & Run for Roger’s House has raised more than $750,000.
This year’s Direct Energy Walk, Roll & Run for Roger’s House promises to be another success. Event highlights include a Family Fun Zone, Sens Street Tour activities, stilt walkers and balloon artists, Little Ray’s Reptiles, musical entertainment by The Verdict, Ottawa Police Tactical and Explosive Unit, a barbecue lunch for participants and much more.
