
Kim Pegula is the owner of both the Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bills. Kim made history in 2018, when she became the first female president of both an NHL and NFL team.
Kim and her husband Terry purchased the Sabres on Feb. 22, 2011 and the AHL’s Rochester Americans later that year, restoring a longtime affiliation between the Sabres and Amerks. On Oct. 8, 2014, Kim and Terry realized a long-time dream when they became only the second owners of the Bills. The Pegulas’ sports ownership also extends to the Buffalo Bandits of the NLL, who have won three league championships under their ownership.Kim has previously served as the co-chair of the NHL’s Executive Inclusion Committee and on the board of directors for the Hockey Hall of Fame. She has also served on the NFL’s Workplace Diversity Committee, committing to ensuring that diversity is a priority in both leagues. Kim’s NFL involvement extended to the league’s Super Bowl and Major Events Advisory Committee, Business Ventures Committee, and NFL Foundation Committee.
In 2014, Kim and Terry opened LECOM Harborcenter, a more than $200 million multipurpose facility anchored by two NHL-size ice rinks and a Marriott Hotel franchise. Combined with KeyBank Center, the facility helped attract several major events to Buffalo since its inception, including the NHL Scouting Combine, 2016 NHL Draft, 2018 IIHF World Junior Championships and 2019 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four, as well as a variety of stadium and arena concerts.
For their efforts, Kim and Terry have been previously recognized with the Tank Younger Award for embracing diversity in the NFL and their involvement in the Buffalo community landed the Pegulas on the Buffalo Business First Most Influential People list.In addition to their experience in professional sports, Kim and Terry have been committed to the growth of sports at the collegiate level. In 2010, they donated $102 million for the creation of the Pegula Ice Arena at Penn State University. The facility allowed Penn State to create an NCAA Division I hockey program. Terry and Kim also supported Houghton College with a gift of $12 million to build the Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex, allowing Houghton’s athletic department to become a Division III program.During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pegulas donated $1.2 million to various relief efforts in Western New York and Kim served on Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Reopening Advisory Board for New York State.
Born in Seoul, South Korea on June 7, 1969, Kim was adopted at the age of 5 by Ralph and Marilyn Kerr and moved to Fairport, New York, a suburb of Rochester. She attended nearby Houghton College and graduated in 1991 with a degree in communications. Kim began her professional career with East Resources, Inc. in 1991 and was involved with the company until its sale in 2010.Terry and Kim have five children: Michael, Laura, Jessica, Kelly and Matthew. Jessica competes on the Women’s Tennis Association Tour, currently ranking top 5, and she was a member of the 2021 and 2024 US Olympic Teams.
