It's a day off for the Buffalo Sabres, but the team announced Sunday that goaltender Nathan Lieuwen has been assigned to the AHL's Rochester Americans.
Lieuwen did not see any game action after being recalled from Rochester on Wednesday. He dressed as the backup to Jhonas Enroth in Buffalo's 2-1 win in Washington on Saturday. Michal Neuvirth missed the game after suffering a lower-body injury in the first period of Buffalo's 4-1 win over San Jose on Tuesday.
In Rochester this season, Lieuwen has appeared in 10 games, recording a 3-4-0 record and a 3.53 GAA. He has appeared in 46 career AHL games, compiling a 21-17-4 record, a 2.59 GAA and .906 save %.
The Sabres are off until Wednesday when they'll put their season-high three-game winning streak on the line against the Winnipeg Jets at First Niagara Center. Game time is 7 p.m. (MSG/Sportsnet One; WGR). Fans attending Wednesday's home game are encouraged to bring along non-perishable food items, canned goods or cash donations for the Fan Food Drive to benefit the Food Bank of Western New York.
This year, the Food Bank is asking specifically for jars of peanut butter and jelly if possible. Fans who donate will receive a coupon for 25 Fan Advantage Points, which can be used to redeem prizes from the store in the Sabres’ new Fan Advantage smart phone application. Items will be collected at all entrance points at First Niagara Center. All donations will be passed on to the Food Bank of Western New York.
