The Buffalo Sabres recalled rookie winger Drew Stafford
on Monday. Stafford was reassigned on Saturday to Rochester for salary cap reasons.
"He played very well for us," said head coach Lindy Ruff. "I really felt that he could be an important piece of our puzzle" The Milwaukee, Wisconsin native was called up six times during the regular season. He shined in his most recent call up from February 17 until he was sent down on April 7, registering 11 goals and 11 goals in 22 games. Stafford's efforts earned him NHL Rookie of the Month honors in March when he had nine goals and four assists in 15 games.
"He's played really well on both ends of the rink," said Ruff. "And he's shown a lot of maturity as a young player that stepped in and helped us to get where we are at right now."
Buffalo still holds one of its allotted four post-trade deadline recalls.
In 41 games with Buffalo this season, Stafford has netted 13 goals and added 14 assists, while registering a plus-five rating. Three of his goals are game-winners.
