[Editor's Note:  Befriending PGA golfer, and Rochester, NY native, Dudley Hart a number of years ago, Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff received the opportunity to do something unique.  Hart offered Ruff the chance to work as his caddy for the  Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, TX this weekend.

Following the first round of play on Thursday, Ruff spoke about the day's experiences.  Hart shot an opening round 56, good to give him a share of fifth place after 18 holes.]

What did you think as your first day as a PGA caddy?

"It was awesome.  Just to be in play and see what professional golfers go through was a great experience."

Thoughts on Dudley Hart's putting performance during first round?

"He had a couple putts that were really close.  Made one long one but he got a couple nice and tight.  He had a couple great saves that obviously kept the round going.  Every shot isn't great but it's all about getting up and down from certain places.

"Overall, I thought he really putted well today."

Was this your first time as a caddy and would you do it again if the opportunity presented itself?

"It was the first time, yes.  It depends how we do if we ever are to have a future stint."

Were you nervous at all about being a professional caddy?

"A little bit.  I think not starting out but more so coming down to the end.  It wasn't really nervousness but more anxious.  You want to see good shots and you want to see good play.  It was probably anxious more than anything else."

Do you see a future for yourself as a caddy?

"Nothing against caddying, I thought it was a great experience and I would think about doing it again some time, but I don't think there's a future in it."

Why did you choose Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Country Club to make your debut?

"Dudley picked it.  He said it would be a good tournament for me to caddy.  We've known each other for a long time so he picked this one.  He said it would be a good tournament, a good course and not too hilly."

Will you reciprocate and have Hart behind the bench for a Sabres game?

"He's come close.  We agreed, at one time, for him to come on the road with us because he did an event for the team.  So he's been around and whatever works, works."

What are your thoughts on the NHL Playoffs thus far?

"I was totally impressed with the four teams going into the Conference Finals.  I watch almost all of the Dallas/San Jose series, obviously had a lot of interest in that with Campbell playing.  I just think the four overtimes might be tough to recover from.  That's like playing three games."

Do you have a prediction for the Stanley Cup Finals?

"I have no predictions.  I'm going to stay away from that.  I think that both teams deserve it.  It's just going to end up being the team that takes care of business the best."
