The Buffalo Sabres announced today they will be holding a “Party in the Plaza” on Friday prior to the start of the 37th season opener in franchise history. Game time against the New York Islanders is 7:30 p.m.
The Presidents’ Trophy will be on display in the HSBC Arena Pavilion from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Fans will be able to take photographs of the trophy while it is on display free of charge.
The pregame festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. outside HSBC Arena in the Plaza located near Perry and Illinois St. where fans can enjoy live music from the Tommy Z Band. There will also be special guest appearances throughout the night, and a 12' by 9' video monitor where fans will be able to watch a live broadcast of the game. Food and drink will be available for purchase; with a three beer limit. The Presidents' Trophy will also be on display for fans to see.
The party will take place rain or shine with free admission, as a game ticket will not be required for entrance to the party.
Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 7:20 p.m. in order to enjoy the pre-game arena festivities. The pre-game ceremonies will include the unveiling of the Presidents' Trophy, and of the Northeast Division Champions and Presidents’ Trophy banners. The Presidents' Trophy will also be officially presented to the team during the ceremony. Doug Allen will perform the national anthems, and the Canisius College ROTC Color Guard will present the colors.
The Presidents' Trophy will also be on display throughout the game in the east pavilion at the WGR Radio broadcast location. Fans will have an opportunity to take photos of the trophy free of charge.
Fans should also be reminded the Perry Street will be closed from Washington St. to Illinois St. by 4 p.m. for the plaza party. Fans driving to HSBC Arena should plan alternate routes to account for street closings.
