When the Rochester Americans acquired Eric O'Dell, Cole Schneider, Alex Guptill and Michael Sdao in a seven-player trade with the Ottawa Senators organization on Feb. 27, general manager Tim Murray said the move was made in hopes of the players benefitting from a change of scenery.
It's only two games into their tenure with Rochester, but that change of scenery certainly seemed to be a welcome one last weekend at the Blue Cross Arena. O'Dell scored twice, Schneider added two assists, Guptill scored a goal and Sdao had two helpers in their debut, a 7-3 win over the Springfield Falcons.
The next night, it was Schneider who scored and O'Dell who tallied a helper in a 4-2 win over the League-leading Toronto Marlies.
The victories extended Rochester's home winning streak to four games, with two of their next three games – against Utica on Friday and Binghamton on Sunday – set to be played at the Blue Cross Arena this weekend.
SPR 3 - ROC 7
The Amerks came into their game against the Falcons on Friday having lost two in a row, including a lopsided 10-5 loss to the Marlies in their previous game. On this night, however, it was the Amerks who would runaway with a win, breaking a 2-2 tie late in the second and scoring four times in the third.
Bobby Sanguinetti and O'Dell scored in the first period, but Springfield tied the game just 4:26 into the second. O'Dell scored the go-ahead goal from in-tight with 2:34 remaining, Chad Ruhwedel scored twice to begin the final period and Jean Dupuy and Guptill each tallied to cap the scoring.
Nathan Lieuwen earned the win in net for the Amerks with 23 saves on 26 shots.
TOR 2 - ROC 4
Linus Ullmark had a chance at redemption against the Marlies after allowing six goals in two periods before he was pulled in their last meeting. Ullmark took advantage of the opportunity on Saturday, stopping 40 of 42 shots to survive a late-game push by Toronto in the victory.
The Amerks jumped out to a quick lead when Schneider scored just 1:10 into the contest, then extended that lead to 3-0 with back-to-back goals from William Carrier. Connor Brown fueled the comeback effort for the Marlies with two third-period goals, but Jerry D'Amigo added an empty-netter to seal the win in the final minute.
