An East Side neighborhood in Buffalo will be the recipient of an eco-friendly makeover, thanks to the “Good and Green Homes” Project.

On Earth Day 2010, the Response to Love Center, located on Kosciuszko Street, as well as the surrounding area, will utilize a $34,000 grant from the Home Depot Foundation to revive it’s exterior.

The repairs include fixing “unsafe porches, installing fencing, scraping and painting homes, renovating bathrooms, cleaning debris from the street, installing security lights, planting a community garden in a vacant lot, and installing energy efficient doors and windows,” according to a press release.

Volunteers will begin the majority of the work on Thursday, April 22 on the 20 separate projects on the street.

The Response to Love Center is run by Sister Johnice. The organization serves to “inspire hope, healing and peace to the poor and marginalized of society… regardless of race, social status or religious affiliation,” according to its Web site. The Response to Love Center houses a variety of programs, including providing a food pantry, thrift shop and other services. For more information, click here.
