Head Coach Lindy Ruff addressed the status of veteran forward Mike Grier in his post-game comments Friday night.
Grier has missed the last three games due to a family sickness. Prior to the Sabres’ 2-1 win against the Chicago Blackhawks, it was announced that Grier’s mother had passed away this week. The organization called for a moment of silence before the puck dropped.
“I knew earlier in the week that it had happened,” Ruff said. “We decided, with the service being today, that we’d make an announcement. I really didn’t think it was my place to come out [and say anything], but it’s been a tough week for a teammate. I thought it was really classy by the organization to do what they did. We’ll get him through it, we’ll get him back. He’s probably going to need a few days. He’s planning on trying to meet up with the team this weekend. When we get him in we’ll see where he’s at.”
The Sabres travel to New York tonight to take on the Rangers at Madison Square Gardens on Saturday at 7 p.m.
