Zetterberg to sign autographs for smoke detector collection

by Christy Hammond / Detroit Red Wings
DETROIT – Detroit Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg will sign autographs on Monday, Sept. 26, from 5-7 p.m. at Hockeytown Authentics in Troy to show his support of the annual Smoke Detector Collection presented by Comerica.

Fans looking to get a puck or photo signed can donate two new smoke detectors with batteries or make a $20 donation to help purchase two new smoke detectors. In exchange for a minimum donation of four smoke detectors or $40, fans can get their jersey or hockey stick signed by the star forward.

Wristbands for Monday’s autograph signing will be issued at Hockeytown Authentics starting at 10 a.m. A maximum of 500 wristbands will be handed out prior to 5 p.m. and those who receive wristbands may begin to line up for the autograph signing no earlier than 4 p.m. A wristband will get fans one autograph from Zetterberg. For more information, please call Hockeytown Authentics at (248) 680-0965. Hockeytown Authentics is located at 1845 E. Big Beaver on the northwest corner of Big Beaver and John R in Troy.

As the team spokesman for this initiative, Zetterberg will personally match the total of all detectors collected this fall. Together with local fire departments, all detectors collected through this initiative will be donated to low-income residents throughout Metro Detroit. Last year, Zetterberg and the Red Wings distributed over 2,750 smoke detectors to fire departments throughout Metro Detroit.

Monday’s signing kicks off the 2011 Smoke Detector Collection, which continues with in-game collections on Friday, Sept. 30, against Toronto and Sunday, Oct. 2, versus Pittsburgh. Fans attending these games are encouraged to bring new smoke detectors with batteries and will be entered to win autographed Zetterberg memorabilia for their donation.
