DETROIT -- The Red Wings continue their quest for a 12th Stanley Cup championship in franchise history when they face the Vancouver Canucks in a best-of-seven Western Conference finals series, which starts Sunday at 8 p.m. at Rogers Arena. Game 2, also at Rogers Arena, is set for Wednesday at 9 p.m.
Games 3 and 4 will be held at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit on Friday, May 20 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 22 at 3 p.m. If necessary, the Canucks will host Game 5 on Tuesday, May 24 at 9 p.m.; the Wings will host Game 6 on Thursday, May 26 at 8 p.m.; and Vancouver will host Game 7 on Saturday, May 28 at 8 p.m. All game times listed are Eastern Daylight Time.
The Red Wings are the third seed in the Western Conference, marking the 20th consecutive time that the franchise has qualified for the Stanley Cup playoffs. Detroit finished the regular-season first in the Central Division with a 47-25-10 record and third in the conference with 104 points, marking the 11th straight season that the team surpassed 100-points.
Detroit posted a 2-2-0 record against the top-seeded Canucks during the regular-season, which includes a 1-1-0 mark at The Joe. The Red Wings finished the season 13-points behind Vancouver in the Western Conference standings, and were outscored by the Canucks, 13-12, during the season series.
This marks just the second time that these franchises have faced off in the Stanley Cup playoff. The only other time came in 2002, when the Wings won four straight after dropping two straight games at home to start the conference quarterfinals series.
