DETROIT – College hockey’s brightest young stars will once again be on display at Joe Louis Arena this year, as College Hockey in the D returns with a trio of events for 2014-15. This year, the 50th Annual Great Lakes Invitational will return to JLA on Dec. 28-29 after staging last season’s edition at Comerica Park as part of the 2013 Hockeytown Winter Festival, while the annual clash between the Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans is set for Jan. 30, 2015. New to the ‘College Hockey in the D’ series is the Big Ten Tournament, which will be played over three days from March 19-21, 2015.

Next season’s GLI will feature the Michigan Wolverines (Big Ten), Michigan State Spartans (Big Ten), Michigan Tech Huskies (WCHA) and Ferris State Bulldogs (WCHA). The four-team tournament will kick off on Sunday, Dec. 28 with a doubleheader between Michigan and Michigan Tech at 3:30 p.m. and Michigan State and Ferris State at 7:00 p.m. The winners of those contests will advance to the championship game on Monday, Dec. 29 at 7:00 p.m., while the other two will meet in the third-place game at 3:30 p.m. on the same day. All four games of the GLI will be televised live on FOX Sports Detroit Plus.

The Wolverines and Spartans have met at least once per season at The Joe since 1990 and will further their rivalry on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, with the game airing live on FOX Sports Detroit. Michigan holds a series advantage with a 14-9-4 record, after the teams split their meetings in Detroit during the 2013-14 season. Michigan State was victorious 3-0 in an outdoor game for third place at the GLI during the Hockeytown Winter Festival, but Michigan prevailed 2-1 in the teams’ annual tilt at JLA.

The Big Ten will descend on Joe Louis Arena for the first time from March 19-21, 2015, as the conference’s championship tournament will be staged in Detroit with all five games set to air live on the Big Ten Network. The six-team conference was formed prior to the 2013-14 season and includes Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin, which will all participate in the single-game elimination-style tournament. Joe Louis Arena was previously home to the CCHA championships for 32 seasons until 2013. All-session ticket packages, which include one ticket to all five games of the tournament, start at $45 and go on sale tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept. 24) at 10:00 a.m.

The top two seeds entering the tournament will receive byes through the opening-round games, which will take place on Thursday, March 19 at 4:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The semi-finals will be played on Friday, March 20 at 4:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., with the championship game set to follow on Saturday, March 21 at 8:00 p.m.

Individual tickets for all 2014-15 ‘College Hockey in the D’ events are now on sale at the JLA Box Office (313-471-7575), all Ticketmaster (800-745-3000) outlets, and online at OlympiaEntertainment.com. Group rates for 10 or more tickets are also available for all ‘College Hockey in the D’ events.
