Gov. Jennifer Granholm poses with legendary Red Wings' captain Steve Yzerman at Joe Louis Arena on Saturday.
DETROIT -- During a pre-game ceremony, Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm declared January 13 Steve Yzerman Day throughout the Great Lakes State.
Granholm, who was unable to personally participate in Yzerman's jersey retirement celebration on Jan. 2, because of the funeral of President Gerald R. Ford, made the presentation before Saturday's game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Granholm and Michigan's First Gentleman Dan Mulhern presented Yzerman, now the team's vice-president, with a framed declaration at center ice.
