DETROIT -- The Red Wings learned Thursday that veteran defenseman Chris Chelios suffered a fractured right tibia and will be out of the line-up for three to six weeks.
Chelios, 46, suffered the injury while blocking a shot during the third period of Tuesday’s preseason game in Montreal.
Chelios is entering his 25th NHL, his 10th as a member of the Red Wings. He signed a one-year contract to remain in Detroit on September 9.
His 1,616 career games played ranks first all-time among American born players and sixth all-time in NHL history.
