Hartford Wolf Pack defenseman Daniel Girardi has been named to the 2005-06 American Hockey League All-Rookie Team. Girardi joins forwards Patrick O'Sullivan (Houston), Ryan Shannon (Portland) and Martin St. Pierre (Norfolk), fellow defenseman Mike Green (Hershey) and goaltender Jimmy Howard (Grand Rapids) on the All-Rookie team.
The rookie blueliner joined the Wolf Pack roster on Nov. 12th after starting the season with Charlotte of the ECHL. Girardi, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound 21-year-old hailing from Welland, Ontario, has played in 60 games with the Pack this season, netting eight goals and 30 assists for 38 points and earning a plus-14 rating.
Girardi also registered a six-game points scoring streak, tallying eleven points between February 24th and March 4th, including two goals in the March 4th win over Houston that Girardi sealed with the game-winner. Girardi, who won a Memorial Cup with London (OHL) in 2005, also contributed ten other multiple-point games, including three three-point efforts.
Girardi will receive a custom designed crystal award in recognition of his selection to the 2005-06 AHL All-Rookie Team.
The Wolf Pack return to action Friday night, April 7 (7:00 p.m. faceoff), with a home match-up against Atlantic Division leader the Portland Pirates. Then on Saturday night, the Pack travel to Bridgeport to take on the Sound Tigers (7:05 p.m.) in a GEICO Connecticut Cup showdown and face the Lowell Lock Monsters the following day at home (4:00 p.m.).
