Rangers President, General Manager and Head Coach Glen Sather spoke with the media shortly after announcing today's trade with Pittsburgh. Below are excepts from the conference call.
"When you have a chance to get a player like Alexei Kovalev, you can't really pass that opportunity up. He's an elite player with tremendous skill. He competes and we need someone to put the puck in the net. If you watched Saturday's game in Philly, a player like Kovalev could've made a difference for us out there. He's exciting, strong and has a lot of charisma."
"There were some other guys that they (Pittsburgh) asked for who I wasn't willing to part with. We've been talking on and off for close to three weeks now."
"He's excited to come back (to New York). It means a lot for us to get him back. He was just the right fit. I thought he was a great player then (in his first stint with the Rangers). He shoots the puck a lot more now. He does a lot of things at a high level. We're going to use him a lot and hopefully he'll be very productive."
