Rangers Youth Hockey Camp: Week 2 Day 2

by Staff Writer / New York Rangers

On Ice AM Sessions: New York Rangers alumnus Dave Maloney joined players during their morning skate. Dave helped the players practice the concepts of puck control and protection. They participated in drills that emphasized puck position, body positioning and keeping your head up while playing. Players also worked on their passing skills during these drills. Goaltenders combined yesterday’s lesson on visual attachment with lateral movement during both AM and PM sessions.

On Ice PM Sessions: Today’s afternoon session focused on passing with a secondary objective to score. Players participated in odd man rush drills that lead to 5v0, 3v1 and 4v2’s. Players also worked on their passing accuracy by passing pucks through cones from different angles while moving through the neutral zone.

Classroom Presented by Kumon: Hydration was the main focus of today’s classroom lesson. Players learned the significance of being hydrated and the consequences of being dehydrated by learning the different signs that indicate each condition.

Dynamic Training: Today’s training started off with stations that included serpentine drills, core work and short sprints. The focus shifted to balance where the players participated in drills that had them standing on foot while doing a variety of activities.
