On Tuesday, April 5, Garden of Dreams, in partnership with the New York Rangers,Knicks and Liberty, unveiled its fifth room refurbishment project, "The WHEDco Leadership Center," at partner organization WHEDco in Bronx, N.Y.

With the talents of Samix Restoration & Design, Inc., and its President, contractor Omar Rivera, Garden of Dreams and the MSG Sports Teams transformed an old fitness center utilized as a computer lab into a functional, youth-friendly computer lab for all users. The previous barren entrance way, formerly the fitness center's reception area, was reinvented into a welcoming teen lounge that will open its doors to children of all ages to gather, study, work and play.

The project's refurbishment included everything from new bamboo floors, eco-friendly clay walls, solar shades, brand new computers and much more!

Former Rangers star Ron Duguay admires the new WHEDco Leadership Center, a computer lab that he and other members of the Garden of Dreams family helped create at WHEDco in Bronx, N.Y.
A WHEDco fifth-grader commented, "I am so excited we have a new computer lab and I can't wait to learn new things there. Thank you Garden of Dreams. Your contribution is much appreciated and I know all the children at WHEDco will love it."

In addition to the Rangers, Knicks and Liberty, this year the project included Fuse, a national television network (part of MSG Media) dedicated exclusively to music. Fuse and WHEDco have developed a strong relationship through the Garden of Dreams program, Fuse Rocks the Classroom. Fuse Rocks the Classroom takes WHEDco teens behind-the-scenes of the music and entertainment television industry to learn first-hand what it takes to air a television show and produce their own show.

Rangers alumnus Ron Duguay, Knicks alumnus John Starks, the Knicks City Dancers and Fuse host Allison Hagendorf were on hand to take part in the ribbon cutting ceremony.

During the ceremony, a WHEDco teen expressed the importance of the new space housed at WHEDco:

"Growing up in WHEDco through the years has taught me many things. I have not only learned a lot, but also grew as a person. WHEDco has become my second home and it is where I met most of my closest friends.

The addition of the new teen lounge in the Leadership Center contributes to the comfortable environment that WHEDco provides. We deeply appreciate everything MSG and the Garden of Dreams have done for us over the years. I am moving on to college in the fall, Johnson and Wales, but I will never forget my home here."

Garden of Dreams, the New York Rangers, Knicks and Liberty are honored to have partnered with WHEDco on our fifth room refurbishment project.
A special thank you to WB Mason for their donation of computer room chairs for each computer station, Kimak Design for a beautiful mural design and Applied Image for a perfect mural installation!
