Rangers Daily Prospect Update: Sept. 30, 2006

Ten Rangers prospects competed in regular-season games in the OHL, QMJHL, WHL, NCAA and Europe on Saturday. Here is a summary of their performances:

PyattTom Pyatt
Position: Center
Team: Saginaw Spirit
League: OHL
Pyatt's Scoring to Date: 5 games, 2 goals, 3 assists, 2 PIM
Sept. 30: Saginaw 5, Windsor 3 (at Saginaw)

Pyatt, the game's No. 1 star, had his biggest night of the young season, erupting for two goals and two assists to lead the Spirit to their first win of the year. He began his scoring onslaught with the primary assist on Jack Combs' power-play goal at 8:34 of the first period. He then helped Saginaw go up 2-0 with the second assist on Patrick Asselin's goal at 12:40 of the first. Pyatt picked up his first goal of the season on a power play at 2:08 of the second, putting the Spirit ahead 3-1 and then tallied his second goal while Saginaw was shorthanded at the 7:00 mark. Late in the third period, Pyatt also took a minor penalty - his first of the year.

Sanguinetti's Scoring to Date: 5 games, 6 goals, 4 assists, 6 PIM
Sept. 30: Owen Sound 5, Kitchener 2 (at Owen Sound)

Sanguinetti, the game's No. 2 star, picked up his sixth goal of the season on a power play at 10:13 of the second period, giving Owen Sound a 2-1 lead. Currently averaging two points per game, he is the top scoring defenseman in the OHL and is tied for third overall in the league.

FurrerPhilippe Furrer
Position: Defense
Team: SC Bern
League: Swiss Nationalliga A
Furrer's Scoring to Date: 6 games, 1 goal, 0 assists, 31 PIM
Sept. 30: Bern 3, Zug 1 (at Bern)

Furrer scored the game's first goal - and his first point of the season - at 9:43 of the second period. He was also called for a minor penalty late in the first period.

DupontBrodie Dupont
Position: Center
Team: Calgary Hitmen
League: WHL
Dupont's Scoring to Date: 5 games, 3 goals, 1 assist, 31 PIM
Sept. 30: Calgary 6, Brandon 3 (at Brandon)

Dupont scored Calgary's second goal of the game at 14:29 of the first period to put the Hitmen up 2-0. He also picked up 17 penalty minutes in the third period as the result of a fight with Brandon's Theran Yeo. Dupont was given a misconduct and an instigator penalty for the fight.

Team: Prince George Cougars

Hunter's Scoring to Date: 3 games, 1 goal, 1 assist, 24 PIM
Sept. 30: Prince George 5, Chilliwack 3 (at Chilliwack)

Hunter, the Cougars' captain, assisted on his team's fourth goal, scored by Prab Rai on a power play at 14:18 of the third period. The goal gave Prince George a 4-2 lead and ended up being the game-winner. Hunter was also called for a tripping penalty in the first period.

Team: Gatineau Olympiques
League: QMJHL
Kveton's Scoring to Date: 4 games, 0 goals, 5 assists, 2 PIM
Sept. 30: Gatineau 9, Acadie-Bathurst 4 (at Gatineau)

Kveton assisted on the eighth Gatineau goal, one of six power-play tallies, in a 9-4 rout by the Olympiques. The assist led to Claude Giroux's third goal of the period, giving him a hat trick for the game.

League: Czech Extraliga
Psurny's Scoring to Date: 10 games, 2 goals, 1 assist, 6 PIM
Sept. 30: Zlin 4, Liberec 1 (at Zlin)

Psurny took two minor penalties as Zlin crushed Liberec at home for its second straight win.

Cliche Marc-Andre Cliche
Position: Right Wing
Team: Lewiston MAINEiacs
League: QMJHL
Cliche's Scoring to Date: 6 games, 4 goals, 3 assists, 6 PIM
Sept. 30: Lewiston 2, Chicoutimi 0 (at Chicoutimi)

Cliche did not score a point, but was plus-1 for the game as the MAINEiacs shut out the Sagueneens behind 22 saves from Jonathan Bernier.

SauerMichael Sauer

Sauer's Scoring to Date: 3 games, 1 goal, 1 assist, 4 PIM
Sept. 30: Portland 5, Kelowna 2 (at Portland)

Sauer did not record a point or take any penalties in Portland's victory. He was plus-1 for the game.

Olver Darin Olver
Position: Center
Team: Northern Michigan Wildcats
League: CCHA
Sept. 30: Northern Michigan 5, Toronto 2 (at Northern Michigan) (exhibition)

Olver, a senior who earned honorable mention status for the preseason All-CCHA team, scored at 18:50 of the first period to give Northern Michigan a 2-0 lead. He later added an assist on Mike Santorelli's goal at 7:45 of the third period. Northern Michigan officially begins its season next weekend against the University of Wisconsin.

ZaborskyTomas Zaborsky
Position: Left Wing
Team: Saginaw Spirit
League: OHL
Zaborsky's Scoring to Date: 4 games, 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 PIM
Sept. 30: Saginaw 5, Windsor 3 (at Saginaw)

Zaborsky was not in the lineup as Saginaw won its first game of the season.
