Rangers Daily Prospect Update: Sept. 22, 2006

Seventeen Rangers prospects competed in regular-season games in all three Canadian major-junior leagues and Europe on Friday Here is a summary of their performances:

SanguinettiBobby Sanguinetti
Position: Defense

League: OHL
Sanguinetti's Scoring to Date: 1 game, 2 goals, 1 assist, 0 PIM
Sept. 22: Guelph 4, Owen Sound 3 (at Guelph)

Sanguinetti, the Rangers' first-round draft choice in 2006, had a huge start to his season with two goals and one assist in Owen Sound's 4-3 season-opening loss to Guelph. With a hand in all three Attack goals, Sanguinetti, an alternate captain this season, was named the games No. 2 star in defeat.

Cliche's Scoring to Date: 1 game, 0 goals, 2 assists, 0 PIM
Sept. 22: Lewiston 7, Prince Edward Island 1 (at PEI)

Cliche, the Lewiston captain, led his MAINEiac squad to a dominating 7-1 win their 2006-07 season-opener. The center had a pair of second-period assists in the game.

Kveton David Kveton

Kveton's Scoring to Date: 1 game, 0 goals, 2 assists, 0 PIM
Sept. 22: Gatineau 4, Cape Breton 2 (at Gatineau)

Kveton, the Rangers' 2006 fourth-round draft choice, had two assists in his North American debut as Gatineau beat Cape Breton 6-4. His assists came on Gatineau's first and last goals of the game, and both were on the power play.

Sept. 22: Kamloops 6, Portland 3(at Kamloops)

Coming back from a concussion suffered at Team USA's World Junior Camp that prevented him from attending Rangers' training camp, Sauer made a big splash in Portland's season opener despite the Winter Hawks' loss. The alternate captain recorded Portland's first goal of the season on a power play at just under six minutes into the first period. He also had a second period assist.

Dupont's Scoring to Date: 1 game, 1 goal, 0 assists, 0 PIM
Sept. 22: Calgary 3, Red Deer 2 (at Calgary)

Dupont scored the game-winner in Calgary's 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Red Deer. The alternate captain's goal came on the power play at 4:38 of the third period.

Sept. 22: Poprad 5, Skalica 3 (at Poprad)

Dornic notched his first goal of the Slovak Extraliga season in a loss at Poprad. His goal came at 14:35 of the first period, cutting Poprad's lead to 2-1.

Hunter's Scoring to Date: 1 game, 1 goal, 0 assists, 10 PIM
Sept. 22: Prince George 4, Seattle 2 (at Prince George)

Hunter, playing for the Cougars as an overage junior, scored his team's final goal in an opening-night win over Seattle. He also had 10 penalty minutes in the game.

Russell assisted on a first-period power play goal as Kootenay crushed Tri-City 7-3 in its season-opener.

Pyatt had one assist as Saginaw lost its season-opener at London. One of the Spirit's alternate captains this season, Pyatt picked up his assist on a first-period power play goal.

Flatt was a physical presence on the ice in Kootenay's big win over Tri-City. He was involved in two fights and was plus-1 for the game.

Sept. 22: Prince Albert 4, Saskatoon 2 (at Saskatoon)

The Rangers' 2006 seventh-round draft choice was held without a point and had six penalty minutes in his North American debut, as Prince Albert beat Saskatoon on the road.

KoverkoTrevor Koverko

Sept. 22: Toronto St. Michael's 4, Oshawa 3 (at Toronto)

Acquired from Owen Sound in the off-season, Koverko made his Oshawa debut as one of the Generals' alternate captains. He was held without a point as Oshawa dropped its season-opener in Toronto.

Zaborsky, the Rangers' fifth-round draft choice in June, was held off the scoresheet in his North American debut. He was among the Saginaw players who started the game.

Furrer played but did not record a point as Bern won its second straight game.

Psurny did not score a point and was whistled for one minor penalty during the first period of Zlin's road loss.

Sept. 22: Khimik Mystischy 3, Magnitogorsk 2 (at Mystischy)

Marek did not score and was called for six minutes in penalties, including a double-minor in the second period. Magnitogorsk fell behind 3-0 and was unable to catch Mystischy despite a pair of goals in the first 5:28 of the third period. It was only the second time in seven games that Marek was held without a point.

Sept. 22: Ufa 3, Yaroslavl 1 (at Yaroslavl)

Anisimov was not in the lineup as Yaroslavl fell at home.
