Rangers Daily Prospect Update: Oct. 29, 2006

Eleven Rangers prospects competed in regular-season games in the QMJHL, OHL, WHL and Europe on Sunday. Here is a summary of their performances:

MarekJan Marek
Position: Forward
Team: Magnitogorsk Metallurg
League: Russian Superleague
Marek's Scoring to Date: 19 games, 13 goals, 6 assists, 26 PIM
Oct. 29: Magnitogorsk 3, St. Petersburg 0 (at St. Petersburg)

Marek had another two-goal game, reaching 13 tallies on the season and increasing his average to one point per game. He scored Magnitogorsk's second goal at 16:38 of the first period and then closed out the scoring 39 seconds into the third period.

PyattTom Pyatt
Position: Center
Team: Saginaw Spirit
League: OHL
Pyatt's Scoring to Date: 15 games, 14 goals, 11 assists, 4 PIM
Oct. 29: Saginaw 5, Plymouth 2 (at Saginaw)

Pyatt scored the game's first goal at 13:33 of the opening period. With 14 goals, he is now just one behind league leader Bryan Little, the Atlanta Thrashers' first-round draft pick last June.

Dupont's Scoring to Date: 16 games, 11 goals, 8 assists, 46 PIM
Oct. 29: Calgary 7, Swift Current 0 (at Calgary)

Dupont scored the first goal of the game for the Hitmen at 4:27 of the second period. His goal stood up as the winner, with Calgary netting four more scores over the next 12 minutes. Dupont, who was also plus-1 for the game, now has a 10-game scoring streak.

League: OHL
Staal's Scoring to Date: 13 games, 3 goals, 6 assists, 19 PIM
Oct. 29: Sudbury 7, Brampton 4 (at Brampton)

Staal, the Wolves' captain, had the second assist on Kevin Baker's power play goal with three seconds remaining in the second period. The goal gave Sudbury a 5-4 lead and stood up as the game-winner. Staal added an assist on Nick Foligno's empty net goal with 13 seconds left to play. Sudbury had trailed 3-0 early in the second period before scoring three straight to tie the game.

ZaborskyTomas Zaborsky
Position: Left Wing
Team: Saginaw Spirit
League: OHL
Zaborsky's Scoring to Date: 14 games, 4 goals, 12 assists, 6 PIM
Oct. 29: Saginaw 5, Plymouth 2 (at Saginaw)

Zaborsky had the primary assist on linemate and fellow Rangers prospect Tommy Pyatt's goal at 13:33 of the first period. He also took a pair of hooking penalties in the game.

SauerMichael Sauer

Sauer's Scoring to Date: 13 games, 3 goals, 3 assists, 22 PIM
Oct. 29: Portland 4, Chilliwack 2 (at Portland)

Sauer did not score any points but led his team with a plus-2 rating in the Hitmen's win at home. He was called for minor penalties in the first and third periods.

Oct. 29: Khimik Mystischy 7, Yaroslavl 1 (at Mystischy)

Anisimov was called for a minor penalty in the first period. Yaroslavl fell behind 3-0 after 20 minutes and was unable to mount a comeback.

Oct. 29: Zvolen 6, Skalica 3 (at Zvolen)

Dornic did not crack the scoresheet as Skalica lost a 3-1 second-period lead by giving up five unanswered goals over the game's final 30:43.

Oct. 29: Zlin 3, Plzen 0 (at Zlin)

Psurny did not score any points or take any penalties as Zlin blanked Plzen. Psurny finished the game with a plus-1 rating.

Kveton David Kveton

Oct. 29: Vsetin 1, Znojmo 0 (at Znojmo)

Kveton did not score any points or take any penalties in Vsetin's 1-0 win.

KoverkoTrevor Koverko

Team: Oshawa Generals

Oct. 29: Oshawa 8, Kingston 6 (at Oshawa)

Koverko did not score any points or take any penalties in an exciting game that saw the Generals roar back from a 2-0 deficit to go up 5-2 by the end of the opening period.

Cliche Marc-Andre Cliche
Position: Right Wing
Team: Lewiston MAINEiacs
League: QMJHL
Cliche's Scoring to Date: 14 games, 8 goals, 10 assists, 12 PIM
Oct. 29: St. John's 4, Lewiston 3 (at St. John's)

An injured Cliche was not in the lineup as the MAINEiacs fell on the road. Lewiston led St. John's 3-0 after two periods but gave up four goals in the first 12:37 of the third. Cliche suffered a head injury when he fell into the boards during the first period of Lewiston's Oct. 28 game at St. John's. This was the first game he has missed due to the injury.

Oct. 29: Zurich 4, Bern 3 (SO) (at Zurich)

Furrer did not play because of a knee injury suffered in Bern's Oct. 22 game at Ambri-Piotta. It was the second game he has missed due to the injury.
