Rangers Daily Prospect Update: Oct. 13, 2006

The Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate, played their second game of the season on Friday night, falling at home to Bridgeport 6-3. The Pack had a 2-0 lead late in the first period and led 3-1 early in the second before Bridgeport stormed back for the win. Rookie Brandon Dubinsky scored twice at even strength for Hartford, while Lauri Korpikoski notched the game's first goal on a power play at 11:20 of the first period. Dane Byers had two assists in the game -- both coming on goals by Dubinsky. Goalie Stephen Valiquette made 27 saves for the Pack, and Bridgeport's final score went into an empty net with only four seconds remaining. In addition, 21 Rangers prospects competed in regular-season games in the OHL, WHL, QMJHL, NCAA and Europe on Friday. Here is a summary of their performances:

Marek had another two-goal game for Magnitogorsk, leading his team to a shutout victory. He scored the game's first goal - and the eventual game-winner -- at even strength off an assist from Nikolai Kulemin just 3:53 into the game. He then added his second goal of the game to make it 2-0 at 18:16 of the first period. Marek is now averaging a point per game in the tough Russian league.

Russell had a big night with two points. He tallied his goal at 10:27 of the first period, giving Kootenay a 2-0 lead, and later assisted on a goal that closed out the scoring at 14:58 of the second period.

Pyatt, the game's No. 1 star, had another multi-point game with a goal and and assist. He opened up with the lone assist on Jan Mursak's goal at 16:09 of the first period. Pyatt then gave Saginaw a 2-0 lead with a shorthanded goal at 19:08 of the first.

Zaborsky, the game's No. 3 star, continued his rapid adjustment to the OHL with two points. He had the primary assist on Jack Combs' goal at 5:49 of the second period, which gave Saginaw a 4-0 lead. He later scored his third goal of the season to make it 5-1 at 13:23 of the second, and he finished the game plus-2.

Dupont, the game's No. 3 star, had the second assist on Ryan White's goal at 11:39 of the first period, which gave the Hitmen a 1-0 lead. He later had the first assist on White's other goal at 14:12 of the second and was plus-2 for the game.
