Rangers Daily Prospect Update: Oct. 11, 2006

Five Rangers prospects competed in regular-season games in the OHL, WHL and QMJHL on Wednesday. Here is a summary of their performances:

Hillier Ryan Hillier
Position: Left Wing
Team: Halifax Mooseheads
League: QMJHL
Hillier's Scoring to Date: 10 games, 6 goals, 2 assists, 10 PIM
Oct. 11: Saint John 5, Halifax 4 (SO) (at Halifax)

Hillier, the game's No. 1 star, had a big night with a pair of goals in his team's loss. He notched the game's first goal at 14:29 of the first period and then tallied on a power play at 12:02 of the third to give the Mooseheads a short-lived 4-3 lead. He was also Halifax's second shooter in the shootout but was stopped by Saint John goalie Aaron Barton.

Position: Defense
Team: Sudbury Wolves
League: OHL
Staal's Scoring to Date: 5 games, 1 goal, 2 assists, 8 PIM
Oct. 11: Sudbury 2, Sault Ste. Marie 1 (at Sault Ste. Marie)

Staal tallied his first goal of the season just 31 seconds into the game. The Wolves didn't nail down the win until Devin DiDiomete broke a 1-1 tie at 19:07 of the third period.

SauerMichael Sauer
Position: Defense
Team: Portland Winter Hawks
League: WHL
Sauer's Scoring to Date: 6 games, 3 goals, 2 assists, 12 PIM
Oct. 11: Kelowna 4, Portland 2 (at Kelowna)

Sauer scored in his second straight game, finding the net on a power play just 29 seconds into the second period. His goal tied the game at 2-2, but Kelowna came back with two third-period goals to win the game. Sauer was also called for two second-period hooking penalties.

DupontBrodie Dupont
Position: Center
Team: Calgary Hitmen
League: WHL
Dupont's Scoring to Date: 8 games, 3 goals, 3 assists, 35 PIM
Oct. 11: Calgary 2, Lethbridge 1 (at Lethbridge)

Dupont had the first assist on the eventual game-winning goal, scored by Ryan White on a power play at 11:45 of the third period. White's goal put Calgary up 2-0.

RussellRyan Russell
Position: Center
Team: Kootenay Ice
League: WHL
Russell's Scoring to Date: 8 games, 5 goals, 5 assists, 21 PIM
Oct. 11: Saskatoon 3, Kootenay 2 (SO) (at Saskatoon)

Russell did not pick up any points in regulation. He was Kootenay's second shooter in the shootout, but could not beat Blades goalie Braden Holtby. Russell was also called for a minor penalty in the third period.
