Rangers Daily Prospect Update: Oct. 1, 2006

Eight Rangers prospects competed in regular-season games in the OHL, QMJHL, WHL and Europe on Sunday. Here is a summary of their performances:

Hillier Ryan Hillier
Position: Left Wing
Team: Halifax Mooseheads
League: QMJHL
Hillier's Scoring to Date: 7 games, 3 goals, 2 assists, 6 PIM
Oct. 1: Halifax 11, St. John's 2 (at Halifax)

Hillier, the game's No. 3 star, turned in his best performance of the season so far, picking up two goals and one assist as Halifax tied a team record with 11 goals and went 5-for-5 on the power play in the first period against St. John's. Hillier gave Halifax a 2-1 lead with his first goal on a power play at 7:14 of the opening period. Six minutes later, he assisted on Justin Saulnier's second goal, also scored on a power play. He closed out his big night with the game's final goal at 5:07 of the third period. He also had two penalty minutes in the game.

Position: Left Wing

League: Slovak Extraliga
Dornic's Scoring to Date: 9 games, 1 goal, 1 assist, 10 PIM
Oct. 1: Nitra 3, Skalica 2 (SO) (at Skalica)

Dornic did not crack the scoresheet as his team lost in a shootout at home. Nitra's Tomas Kucharcik, a former Toronto draft pick who has spent his entire career in Europe, notched the shootout winner.

Anisimov's Scoring to Date: 6 games, 0 goals, 1 assist, 2 PIM
Oct. 1: Moscow CSKA 2, Yaroslavl 1 (at Yaroslavl)

Anisimov did not score a point or take a penalty as Yaroslavl fell at home. Eduard Kudermetov scored the winner for Moscow CSKA on a power play at 12:19 of the third period.

StaalMarc Staal
Position: Defense
Team: Sudbury Wolves
League: OHL
Staal's Scoring to Date: 0 games, 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 PIM
Oct. 1: Toronto St. Michael's 5, Sudbury 4 (at Toronto)

Staal, the Wolves' captain, did not record any points in his 2006-07 OHL debut. He was also called for six minutes in penalties in the game, including a double-minor for high-sticking at 10:32 of the first period.

ZeliskaLukas Zeliska
Position: Center
Team: Prince Albert Raiders
League: WHL
Zeliska's Scoring to Date: 4 games, 0 goals, 0 assists, 6 PIM
Oct. 1: Medicine Hat 3, Prince Albert 2 (OT) (at Prince Albert)

Zeliska, the Rangers' 2006 seventh-round draft choice, was held without a point and was not called for any penalties in Prince Albert's overtime loss.

HunterEric Hunter

Team: Prince George Cougars

Hunter's Scoring to Date: 4 games, 1 goal, 1 assist, 26 PIM

Hunter did not have a point and was called for tripping during the first period of the Cougars' loss on the road.

SauerMichael Sauer

Oct. 1: Portland 3, Kamloops 2 (SO) (at Portland)

Sauer did not record a point and took one minor penalty in the Winter Hawks' dramatic shootout win. He was plus-1 for the game. In the 12-round shootout, Sauer was Portland's ninth shooter, but could not score on Kamloops Dalyn Flette.

Kveton's Scoring to Date: 5 games, 0 goals, 5 assists, 2 PIM
Oct. 1: Victoriaville 4, Gatineau 3 (SO) (at Victoriaville)

Kveton did not have any points or penalty minutes in his team's tie with Victoriaville..
