Rangers Daily Prospect Update: May 11, 2007

by Staff Writer / New York Rangers

Two Rangers prospects competed in postseason games in the OHL and WHL on Friday. Here is a summary of their performances:

StaalMarc Staal
Position/Team: Defense/Sudbury Wolves
League: OHL -- Playoffs
Staal's Final Regular-Season Scoring: 53 games, 5 goals, 29 assists, 92 PIM
Staal's Playoff Scoring to Date: 20 games, 5 goals, 15 assists, 18 PIM
May 11: Plymouth 4, Sudbury 3 (OT) (at Plymouth) (Plymouth leads series 3-2)

Staal, the Sudbury captain, did not score any points or take any penalties as the Wolves lost a heart-breaker when Plymouth's Dan Collins scored at 13:34 of overtime. Sudbury had scored twice in the third period to tie the game. The Wolves must now win both of the next two games to win the series and advance to the Memorial Cup tournament.

SauerMichael Sauer
Position/Team: Defense/Medicine Hat Tigers
League: WHL -- Playoffs
Sauer's Regular-Season Scoring: 65 games, 5 goals, 18 assists, 75 PIM
Sauer's Playoff Scoring to Date: 21 games, 1 goal, 5 assists, 30 PIM
May 11: Vancouver 3, Medicine Hat 0 (at Vancouver) (Vancouver leads series 3-2)

Sauer took a major penalty for fighting Vancouver's J.D. Watt with 3:42 left in the game. After being shut out in back-to-back games at Vancouver, the Tigers will play Game 6 at home and would also play a seventh game at home. Even if Medicine Hat loses the series, the Tigers would still go to the Memorial Cup tournament, since Vancouver is already the host team.

May 6 -- Staal assists as Wolves tie series with Plymouth
