The Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate, defeated the defending Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears 3-2 on an overtime goal by defenseman Martin Richter on Sunday night in Hershey, Pa. After the Pack fell behind 1-0, Hartford's Hugh Jessiman tied the game with 1:21 remaining in the first period, scoring off assists from Greg Moore and Alex Bourret, the first point for Bourret since joining the Rangers organization in a trade with Atlanta last week. Jessiman, the game's No. 2 star, later delivered the game-tying goal on a power play with 2:57 remaining in regulation. Defenseman Ivan Baranka and goaltender Al Montoya assisted on Jessiman's second goal. In the overtime, Richter, the game's No. 1 star, scored on a power play at the 2:50 mark. The goal, assisted by Marvin Degon and Brandon Dubinsky, gave the Pack their second overtime victory in the past two days. Montoya, recently named the AHL's Goaltender of the month, finished the game with 21 saves, as the Pack outshot the Bears 31-23. Hartford is now 36-21-3 on the season and has gone a remarkable 31-10-2 over the past 43 games and stands third in the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division with multiple games in hand over second-place Providence. The Charlotte Checkers, the Rangers' East Coast Hockey League affiliate, defeated the Florida Everblades 5-4 in overtime at home on Sunday afternoon. Rangers prospect Hannu Pikkarainen, a defenseman who missed most of the season recovering from an injury, had the lone assist on Charlotte's second goal, a shorthanded tally by Mark Rycroft at 18:57 of the opening period. Bruce Graham later made it a 3-1 game off an assist from Pikkarainen at 2:10 of the second period. The two assists earned No. 3 star honors for Pikkarainen, who was playing in only his third game of the season. Rangers goaltending prospect Chris Holt made 35 saves, including four in the overtime. Charlotte is now 30-21-3 and in fifth place in the American Conference's South Division. For more information, visit the Checkers' official site.
