The Charlotte Checkers, the Rangers' East Coast Hockey League affiliate, fell to the Florida Everblades 4-3 in an overtime shootout on Tuesday night in Estero, Fla. It was a big night for a pair of Rangers prospects. Zdenek Bahensky scored two goals to earn No. 3 star honors, while Hugh Jessiman, had three points on the night. Bahensky picked up Charlotte's first goal at 9:28 of the opening period, pulling the Checkers into a 1-1 tie. The second assist on Bahensky's goal went to Jessiman. Bahensky followed up with his sixth goal of the season and second of the game just 23 seconds into the middle period. Jessiman had the primary assist on that goal, which gave Charlotte a 2-1 lead. Jessiman later stretched the lead to 3-1 with a goal at 3:25 of the second period. Lee Falardeau had the second assist as the Checkers enjoyed a two-goal lead until Florida came back with two scores early in the third period to force overtime. Jessiman and Bahensky also participated in the shootout, but neither player scored on Florida's David Shantz, who stopped all five of Charlotte's shootout attempts. Rangers goaltending prospect Chris Holt allowed only one goal in the shootout, during the second round.
